Good Measure Productions (GMP) is excited to announce that award-winning filmmaker Ali Asgari’s A Bit of Light (Kami Nour) has been selected for the Official Competition at the 2026 Venice Film Festival in September.
As the film’s Canadian producers, GMP is incredibly proud to see this powerful new feature from acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Ali Asgari premiere on the international stage.
A Bit of Light stars Missagh Zareh, who also starred in the Oscar-nominated The Seed of the Sacred Fig, and was co-written by Academy Award Nominee Shadmehr Rastin, who co-wrote Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or-winning film It Was Just an Accident. You can watch an exclusive clip from the film in Variety.
For Asgari, who has been called “one of the most vital voices in Iranian cinema today”, A Bit of Light is ultimately a film about how love can pull us back from despair.
Filmed earlier this year as the bombs began to fall in Iran, Ali Asgari says in his director's statement, “A Bit of Light is not a film about sorrow, but about the invisible bonds that make life worth holding on to.”
Set in contemporary Iran, the film follows a doctor whose medical practice is shut down after his arrest. He loses faith in the future and resolves to end his life - but one final day among his family begins to unsettle his decision.
A Bit of Light is a continuation of Asgari’s important trajectory through international cinema. His work has been recognized at major international festivals, including Cannes, Venice, and Berlinale and his notable feature films include Disappearance, Until Tomorrow, and Terrestrial Verses.
For Sholeh Alemi Fabbri, founder of Good Measure Productions, this film is also an opportunity to build bridges between communities in Canada, both within the Iranian diaspora and beyond. She hopes to help audiences look beyond the headlines and hear from people living through the unimaginable realities in Iran today, while continuing to persevere.
The film is lead produced by Milad Khosravi’s Seven Springs Pictures, with co-producers Sunny Independent Pictures, Zoe Films, Good Measure Productions, Haurvatat Film, MeMo Films, Salt for Sugar Films and Avantika Singh Desbouvrie and is represented internationally by France’s Salaud Morisset, with Teodora Film Distribuzione handling its Italian release.
Good Measure Productions is honoured to be part of this international collaboration and to support a film that speaks to the resilience of ordinary people set within the complexities of contemporary Iran.
